Yesterday’s Tribune editorial, “Call to arms,” and a number of previous articles in both the Tribune and other news outlets have called for a change in political landscape. That call for change has been heard, and we---
www.changecookcounty.com---are joined together as an answer to that call.
We are seven candidates committed to the common sense ideals shared by Cook County voters and taxpayers. Like them we want a government to prioritize the needs of taxpayers before themselves. A government that spends only what it needs to and a government that delivers quality services to the people it’s intended to serve. Political leaders that will have an honest dialogue about the dangerous and unsustainable state of affairs here in cook county. It shouldn’t feel so novel but sadly it does. We, too, are taxpayers. We, too, are outraged with current affairs. We, too, want to change the culture of incompetence that has plagued Cook County for too long. It is for these reasons that we have decided to step into the arena. We are your candidates.
We are united as a coalition of candidates committed to a shared set of ideals including; transparency and accountability, sound financial management, ending patronage, only collecting a single pension and term limits. We are not professional politicians, and we do not stand to get rich; that is not our goal. We are responding to your call to transform our broken system. Among us are a doctor, a lawyer, a retired judge, an Iraqi war veteran, a community organizer, an architect and educator. We are black, we are white, we are Latino, we are Polish, we are women, we are men, and we are taxpayers in this county. We are as diverse as Cook County itself, and we share the same values.
For all the time and energy we spend complaining about things in Cook County (and we know there is a lot to complain about!) all of us, now must seize this opportunity to chart a new course—a course of honesty, integrity and good stewardship of our county government. We are at a turning point and together we are prepared to usher in a new era of good, responsible leadership in Cook County.
