In the area of campaign fundraising, the clear winner in the race for the 1st District Cook County Board seat is Oak Park's Adekunle Onayemi.
As of Monday, Onayemi had compiled $40,058 in campaign donations, including cash donations from supporters, in-kind donations for services and personal loans to his campaign committee.
Indeed, Onayemi made $15,000 in personal loans to his campaign, accounting for more than a third of what he raised.
As for campaign donations, the vast majority -- $9,500 -- of itemized in Onayemi's campaign filings with the Illinois State Board of Elections came from Oak Park residents.
There was another $8,130 of non-itemized contributions in Onayemi's filling. Candidates do not need to itemize any contributions of less than $150, but must report a total in that category, according to the State Board of Elections.
