Cook County Commissioner Candidate Ade Onayemi has announced the opening of a suburban campaign office at 1209 S. Fifth Ave., in Maywood. Campaign headquarters is at 5845 W. Chicago Ave., in the Austin community of Chicago.
"Visibility and accessibility are major themes of my campaign," stated Onayemi, who is a candidate in the Democratic primary for First District county commissioner.
Onayemi, an Oak Park resident, is an architect, an Austin community business leader and an officer of the Madison Street Development Corporation, which works to bring development to the Garfield Community.
A longtime champion of education reform, Onayemi served eight years on the Oak Park School Board, is a member of the education committee for the Westside Ministers' Coalition and is vice chairman of the Austin Business and Entrepreneurship Academy, part of Austin High School.
Other major themes of the Onayemi campaign include fighting against patronage and bureaucratic waste, rolling back the sales tax increase, improving health care treatment and resources, reforming the juvenile detention center, beautifying the forest preserves and proactively seeking economic development and jobs in the First District.
